After my coffee and bar recommendations for a Tinder date (part 1) - as promised, I follow up with my recommendations regarding Tinder restaurants. The list will encompass quite some different styles of restaurants, the least thing you want to do with a Tinder date is going to a 08/15 location! Common to all restaurants is the great food and the good atmosphere for a date. So, let's start!
Restaurants
Sharing plates
In my opinion quite a good concept to further get to know your date and check out the vibe.
Bauernschänke
Nenad Mlinarevic' first venture in Zurich. Don't get put off by the rather old-fashioned interior featuring traditional wood panels - it adds to the charm. It's located in the Old Town, so easy accessible. Food is outstanding and the shared plate concept allows you to stroll through most of the small menu. The bread is home made and tastes just wonderful. The roasted cauliflower is a dream! Good selection of wines. A safe bet!
Daizy
If you want to go to a restaurant with your date without fearing to bump into your friends, head over to Daizy! It's close to Binz, so a little bit out of the way. The interior is one big open space guaranteeing an intimate setting. Nice menu featuring vegetarian (even some vegan), fish and meat dishes. I went there with my parents-in-law; was a home run! Easy, uncomplicated atmosphere with a good vibe!
Vegeterian
Quite a chance these times that you are looking for a vegetarian option for your Tinder date.
Neue Taverne
Look no further - Neue Taverne is the choice. Check out my post about it and then head over. Only one word - be aware that it's not entirely vegetarian. It's centered around vegetables, but they may use fish sauce etc. to marinate etc. - so ask the staff to be 100% safe.
Asian
Kin
It's close to Lochergut. It's not that big and you won't have your proper table but rather be placed on a long table. Not the best setting for a Tinder date, buy hey, food prevails and it's top Asian infused food, well prepared! Wine selection is mostly natural wines - interesting to discover!
Neela
Quite bold to list it as Asian... - it's actually Sri Lanka. It's in Wiedikon, off the station Bahnhof Wiedikon. It's a mother and her daughter running it - attentive and personal service. They serve delicious curries and roti. Was also one of the few occasions I was drinking beer for dinner as they don't really have a wine selection. But try their Lassi - it's actually goes well with dinner!
Middle East
Neni
Ottolenghi is one of our favourite chefs. We often cook his recipes at home, but from time to time, we also head over to Neni, the restaurant in the 25hours hotel to savor this kind of cuisine. There are two Neni's in Zurich - one in Langstrasse (often quite busy) and one in Zürich West, close to the Museum für Gestaltung (way calmer). From humus to chicken shawarma to sabich - you can indulge yourself into some classical dishes of the regions.
Turkish
Gül
Nope, it's not Döner or Kebap. It's actually about high-class Turkish food and its wonderful herb mixes and spices. It's somehow hidden, in an inner courtyard off Tellstrasse (close to Langstrasse). Nice and light room - white as a color dominates. Lahmacun, Köfte - you will experience Turkish cuisine at it's best! I found it quite pricey, though.
Italian
Not that innovative, but it remains a perennial favorite - so enclosed also a restaurant covering the Italian cuisine
Bottega Berta
Off Idaplatz, this small restaurant distinguish itself with a small but ever-changing menu. There is no menu card, the waiter will point to a blackboard for the food. The blackboard usually features several pasta dishes (meat/vegetarian sauces) as well as a few meat/fish plates or some Italian classics. Start with their antipasto platter to share (dried meat, cheese, pickled vegetables). Nice wine list, with Italian red wines dominating (what a surprise). It can get loud given the small size of the restaurant, but the warm, cozy atmosphere and the food make up for it.
